Workshop Chargehand

£27,000 plus 3% bonus Monday to Friday, days.

Our client is a highly successful designer and manufacturer of specialist machine tools.  Due to internal promotion, our client has asked us to source a workshop chargehand, who will assist the product delivery manager with the management of the assembly team, managing the capacity for shop floor assembly activities to delivery and exceed key performance indicators.

The role:

  • To supervise and motivate the assembly team, ensuring on time delivery and quality KPI’s.
  • To assemble, test and pack machines to a high standard of quality within a stipulated time frame.
  • Strive to continuously improve using LEAD techniques to remove cost, improve production, service offerings and quality.
  • Attend daily production meetings and report on performance.
  • Management of assigned production tasks.
  • Review quality procedures to ensure 100% machinery build capacity.
  • Manage assembly related non-conformances and risk cards.
  • Identify and assist with training needs.
  • Assist with management and continual development of assembly related quality assurance documents and procedures.
  • Contribute to LEAD initiatives.
  • Take ownership and drive shop floor related HSSE including of building maintenance.

Suitable applicants:

  • Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship and/or qualifications, City and Guilds (C&G) Mechanical Fitting or Assembly and or NVQ Level 3 in related trade.
  • Chargehand / production supervisor experience within engineering.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Basic Microsoft Office document skills.
  • Experience with a wide range of machinery / tooling products and special processes.
  • Knowledge and experience of working within the requirements of ISO9001.
  • The ability to read and interpret technical drawing and specifications.
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels and be part of a close team.
  • The ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • Have a good knowledge of HSEQ procedures.
